There is also plenty to discover for those interested in history and culture, as the Peloponnese was a center of ancient Greece and there are also many medieval towns and fortresses.

More about the Peloponnese

Maybe you have already heard about the Peloponnesian War, the city of Corinth, the Spartans and Alexander the Great, but you can learn much more about all of this when you visit the Peloponnese. The peninsula is full of Greek mythology, historical monuments, ancient remains, medieval cities, fortresses and much more.

In Elafonios you will find exotic beaches and a fascinating city history, while in romantic Nafplio you should visit the Palamidi Fortress, a very ambitious structure on the flank of a high rocky hill. To reach the top, you have to climb the stairs along the cliff face consisting of a whopping 999 steps - but it's all worth it when you see the magnificent view from the top.

In the Peloponnese, you are surrounded by water. In the west you will find sandy beaches on the most beautiful blue sea, while in the east of the region you will find mountains, forests, rivers and caves. The town of Dimitsana overlooks the river Lousios and is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and green pine forests. The mountainous area of Corinth is also worth a visit, where you can learn more about nature at the Environmental Museum of Styria.

If you are an olive lover, there is plenty to taste in the Peloponnese! Greeks love them and the climate is perfect for olive growing. Taste the many exciting Greek delicacies and enjoy a glass of local wine.
