Campsites Värmland

The Värmland region is known for its many extensive forests and beautiful lakes and therefore offers many opportunities for adventurous travellers who like active holidays in nature. Lake Vänern near the cosy town Karlstad is the largest lake in Sweden, and also the endpoint of the longest river in Sweden, the Klarälv (460 km). A popular activity on the river is rafting. The whole of Värmland offers excellent hiking, but the best hiking areas can be found in the Glasskogen nature reserve, where 300 km of hiking trails await you. Besides rafting and hiking, Värmland also offers many opportunities for cycling. In 2005 the Klarälvsbanan was opened, a car-free and fairly flat cycling path of no less than 90 km along an old railway line. If you think of Sweden, moose is probably one of the first things that comes to mind, and these beautiful animals with their impressive antlers live in the forests of Värmland. With a bit of luck you may see one, but if not, you can always visit the Värmland Moose Park. Sweden is a very child-friendly country and you will certainly do the children a favour with a visit to the adventure park Nils Holgerssons Värld. After the peace and quiet of nature, you will probably want to visit the hustle and bustle of Karlstad. This is the largest city in Värmland, and you will find all the famous Swedish shops here. The city is not too big, has some nice restaurants and lies on the shores of Lake Vänern. That makes it definitely worth a visit.
